Life Lessons From My Dad

By Carrie Pokrefke

My Dad’s birthday is coming up next week and, to celebrate his Birthday, I thought I would share with you some of the best life lessons from the World’s Best Dad:

1.)  Treat everyone with kindness and take time out to talk to everyone.  I don’t remember the first time I noticed this about my Dad, but he spoke and acknowledged everyone when we would go up to his office or if we saw people we knew out and about.  I never saw him act like he was too good to talk to someone.  He would take the time to ask how someone was doing – and more importantly – would take the time to listen to their response.

2.)  Eating raw meat won’t kill you.  (I know – I don’t meat anymore, but I always thought it was funny that Dad did this.)

3.)  The best way to make Christmas cookies is with a “cookie gun.”  And, if you mess up a cookie, it’s ok to eat the (raw) cookies that didn’t come out right.

4.)  If you are having trouble with school work – go back to the beginning of the chapter.  That way you can make sure you have all the fundamentals you might need to work out the problem you are stuck on.

5.) Love animals.

6.)  Be able to change your own tire and your own oil.  This came in very handy back in high school.

7.)  Antique cars are cool.

8.)  Keep your closet door closed.

9.)  Make sure no clothes are sticking out of your drawers and to close them, too.
